Varg Vikernes relata o confronto entre ele e Euronymous no filme "Until the Light Takes Us".
When we think of black metal, many bands began to appear in the head. Some other interesting and nothing too controversial ..
Today I will speak one of these bands .. She was called Mayhem ...The Mayhem was founded in 1984 in Oslo, Norway. It is considered one of the best and most important bands in the history of the black metal world. The name came from the band Mayhem "Mayhem With Mercy", found on the album "Welcome to Hell" (1981), the British band Venom, considered the first black metal band in history. The band soon gained wide repercussions throughout the world due to controversial events in the early '90s, including the Dead's suicide, the murder of Euronymous and Vikernes porVarg burning of churches in Norway. His lyrics deal mainly with death, paganism and Satanism.Mayhem went through a variety of styles within the Black Metal and is considered by many as one of the best and one of the pillars of Norwegian Black Metal. In his over 25 year history, the band released four studio albums, two EPs and four live albums.
Inspired by groups such as Venom, Slayer, Motorhead and Celtic Frost, Mayhem was founded in 1984 by guitarist Euronymous, the baixistaNecrobutcher and drummer Manheim. As a trio, the band recorded their first demo, Pure Fucking Armageddon with Euronymous eNecrobutcher sharing vocals. In 1986 the band became a quartet with the addition of Messiah on vocals. The band released their second demo, and soon after Deathreahearsal Messiah comes, giving rise to Maniac. With Maniac, Mayhem recorded their first EP, Deathcrush, released by Music Posercorpse and containing the participation of Messiah in two songs.Deathcrush had an initial pressing of only 1000 copies, which sold out quickly. The EP was reissued in 1993 by the new label of Euronymous, the Deathlike Silence Productions. In 1988, two members left the band, Maniac was driven by his addiction to drugs and repeated suicide attempts and drummer Manheimque was looking for a regular job. To replace them came Kittil Kittilsen for vocals and Torben Grue on drums the band Vomit, but also quickly left their posts.
After two brief replacements, vocalist and drummer positions were filled by Dead and Hellhammer. Dead lived in Stockholm and was lead singer of Morbid, but knowing that the Mayhem looking for a new singer, he moved to Oslo and sent an envelope with a cassette tape, a guinea pig in decomposition and a letter that said to be seeking a newbecause I thought that the band Morbid not get anywhere. The envelope came to the attention of the band members and he was promptly accepted. With Dead as vocalist, the band's concerts became legendary. Dead used to cut themselves with knives and broken glass. In addition, the band often placed pigs' heads impaled on stakes and sheep in front of the stage.
In 1990 the band participated in a concert in Sarpsborg, Norway, Support for the festival Slayer Magazine, along with Equinox and Cadaver, Dead and he was rushed to hospital by excessive loss of blood if you cut too deeply. This concert was later included in Dawn of the Black Hearts. Also in 1990 the band members moved into an old house in the woods near Oslo. They began writing songs for her new album, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.
On April 8, 1991, Dead committed suicide in the house band. He was found by Euronymous with wrists slashed and a shotgun wound to the head. In a note left, he apologized for blood and for shooting indoors. Instead of calling the police, Euronymous went to a nearby store and bought a machine to photograph the corpse after rearrange some things. One of these photos was later used on the cover of the album Dawn of the Black Hearts. Rumors surfaced that Euronymous made a stew with pieces of Dead's brain and necklaces with skull fragments. According to Stian Johannsen, who briefly joined the band in place of Dead:He (Dead) did not see himself as a human being, he saw himself as a creature from another world. He said he had many visions that his blood was frozen in his veins, he was dead. This is the reason for its name. He knew he would dieBesides the death of Dead, Mayhem was the protagonist of some controversial pages of the history of Black Metal, and Rock in general. First, the band Mayhem was the most important of the Inner Circle, an anti-Christian movement formed by members of various black metal bands in Norway in order to disseminate and propagate hatred and distaste for the Christian religions, even in an attempt to eliminate the Christian religions Norway. However, such attitudes were not only on an intellectual level: during this time many churches were burned in Norway for Inner Circle members, including some historic churches, a total of about 100 churches burned or damaged by members of the Inner Circle.
With the suicide of Dead and output Necrobutcher, Mayhem lost in just two members.Euronymous called Varg Vikernes for the low, Snorre W. Ruch as a guitarist and Hungarian Attila Csihar for the vocals to the top of the recording of De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.
